Friends, neighbors, customers, all of the above — you’re missed! Not only by us, the staff at Staunton Antiques. But by our collection of amazingly curated antique and vintage goods. Because, as they say in the mysterious world of folklore, items possess their own energies…and all those antique and vintage items sitting in a closed shop are getting starved for some attention, some interaction, someone to see them and ooh and aah!
Same goes for upstairs at The Artisans Loft. So much art, so few eyes to take it all in!
That’s why I’m excited to announce that this coming weekend, beginning Friday May 8th and going through Mother’s Day, Sunday May 10th, we’ll be open from 12pm-5pm for your “socially-distanced” shopping pleasure at both the Staunton Antiques Center and the Artisans Loft. It’s the perfect time to get out of the house, especially if you’re looking to do something with mom, or for mom.
Now of course, “socially distanced” are the operative words. All customer will be required to have masks in order to enter the shop. We will have singange to this effect, and it will be strictly enforced. Visitors can enter both through the Staunton Antiques Center door, and separately through the Artisans Loft door, giving us the ability to have up to ten people in the two downstairs antiques floors, and ten visitors upstairs in the gallery.
We will be sorry to turn anyone away who does not comply, but to protect our workers, and all the shoppers who WILL comply, we must insist that ALL visitors wear masks. So if you don’t have one yet, get one soon — in fact Governor Ralph Northam, who talked on Monday, May 4th about a Phase One opening of Virginia in general beginning May 15th, said that masks will be required in most places IF you want to do the thing on offer (hair salon, shopping, restaurants, whatever…)
Shoppers at the Staunton Antiques Center and the Artisans Loft will also be required to respect and follow the guideline to remain six to ten feet away from others. Further, even though we have three floors and over 15k square feet all told, we will only be allowing ten people each in the two shops at any given time.
For our part, we’ll be cleaning and wiping down surfaces at a much higher rate. And our staff will have masks on and regularly re-wash their hands.
Now I have to say, this is the most hard core blog post I’ve ever written. Usually I’m very happy-go-lucky or simply informative about a certain topic in the antiques world. But here I am being VERY HARDLINE about what we can do and what we can’t for this little window of re-opening.
But that is the nature of these unusual times, and it reflects how seriously I take my responsibility in opening up the shop and gallery to you.
At the same time, it will be fun to finally be open. To allow for some shopping. To give you a diversion. To help you find something special for mom (or for yourself!)
So come on by this Friday the 8th, Saturday the 9th, or Sunday the 10th (Mother’s Day) and come alone to surprise shop, or come with mom to give her a thrill but come! Come shop, come to get out of the house, and come just to browse or come to buy but please come — we’d love to see you again!
