We’ve all been cooped up these past few months and our group and family celebrations have had to take a back seat to the needs of quarantine.
But now that Virginia is in phase two of the re-opening, we can’t think of anything better for Father’s Day than bringing Dad down to Staunton’s temporary “downtown mall” for a brunch on Sunday followed by a trip down memory lane in the Staunton Antique Shop. We’ll be open from Noon-5pm on Father’s Day, with a trove of dad-approved gifts just waiting for you. (Our upstairs contemporary art gallery, The Artisans Loft, is also open on weekends now and will be open Father’s Day.)
To get the ball rolling, I have three ideas for great Father’s Day gifts that will make your dad’s day special. Whether you come on Father’s Day to check them out, or come the day before for surprise shopping (also open Noon-5pm on Saturday) OR make an appointment with me during the week, you can be sure to find something cool that your dad will LOVE.
1. Audiophiles Unite!
Old school vinyl records are all the rage right now and we’ve got one vendor who specializes in an array of albums, from blues, jazz, rock, and Indie titles to country, gospel, showtunes, classical, and more.
Several other vendors throughout the shop also carry records so you never know what you might find.
In addition to this, we have some great equipment like vintage and antique radios and stereo consoles that can be fixed up like new or retrofitted with bluetooth to make a great sound system with a retro look.
And if your dad does like gadgetry, he might also like to score a 35mm film projector or editing machine to re-screen those old family movies!
2. In Rust We Trust
If your dad loves old licence plates we have a bevy to choose from from across the country and sometimes the world. Not only do we have standard plates, but there are also speciality plates too — commemorative plates, special permit plates like for tractors, and signage type plates, many with local ties through their Staunton and Augusta County names.
License plates look so cool in dad’s man cave that if he hasn’t started a collection, maybe this is the year to go beyond ties and six packs and get him something with lasting appeal. Maybe you’ll find him a plate from where he went to college, or was stationed in the service. Maybe you’ll get him one from a place on his bucket list to help make the goal more tangible. Whatever the case, everyone loves these cool plates for their nostalgia, sense of place, and unique decorator touch.
And up the rusty alley we also have an array of old iron tools — saws, wrenches, axes, hammers, pulleys and more — that are perfect for dad’s wall of honor or his actual tool room.
Come check them out.
3. Up His Furniture Game
He works hard (or if retired, worked hard) and now it’s Miller Time. Or at least time to sit back and relax. That’s why the man in your life deserves a new piece of furniture to kick up his style and pleasure a notch.
In stock right now we have a couple of great wing back style chairs, including one in leather with beautiful decorative tacks.
Maybe your guy is thoroughly modern. In that case, our selection of great Mid Century Modern pieces would be a perfect gift for dad. We have coffee tables, desks, sideboards, end tables, lamps, and several other affordable Mid Century investment pieces that will make your whole space nicer while also honoring dad on his special day.
And also in the furnishing arena is the wonderful realm of vintage and antique art. We have African masks, large scale framed prints, vintage movie posters, unique oil paintings, stained glass panels, and more in our antique showroom. A striking focal piece might be just the ticket for dad’s father’s Day gift.
By Appointment and Open Weekends
If you’re not able to make it this upcoming weekend do contact us to make an appointment for during the week. We’d be happy to meet you and open up during the week (bring your mask) to shop before Dad’s big day. Otherwise, again, we’re open Saturday and Sunday, Noon-5pm.
Stay safe and healthy and follow us on Facebook to see our featured Item of the Day and get the latest news on when we’re open.
