We would be remiss if we didn’t share with you some of the great things about our unique little city in the Shenandoah Valley.
While you can get a comprehensive listing of all businesses, restaurants, and entertainment at our local tourism site, Visit Staunton, or learn about other retail at the Staunton Downtown Development Association, what follows is a small and simple curated list for a quick review of our favorite options.
Eats & Drinks
Dinner & Brunch: My son, Ian Boden, is a James Beard Award semifinalists who runs his own little gem of a restaurant just blocks from downtown Staunton. Make reservations to eat with him at The Shack Wednesday-Saturday evenings from 5-9pm, or Sunday from 10:30am-2pm for brunch. 105 S. Coalter Street, Staunton; 540-490-1961.
Breakfast: The best weekday and Saturday morning breakfasts can be found just a few blocks from us. Two doors down is Farmhouse Kitchen & Wares, and down on Central Avenue you’ll find local food haven Nu-Beginning Farm’s The Store.
Coffee: All within walking distance of us, enjoy French-themed coffee delights at Réunion Bakery & Espresso; health food options at Cranberry’s; local faves at Newtown Baking; and a classic coffee shop at The By & By.
Drinks: A tasting room for Valley grown wine, Ox Eye Vineyards is located blocks from us just down in our Wharf area, as is popular and award-winning brewery Redbeard Brews. For wines, bottled beers, and light nibbles try Yelping Dog Wine here on Beverley.
Events and Entertainment
Staunton really punches above its weight when it comes to culture.
From the American Shakespeare Center to the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library & Museum to the Heifetz International Music Institute to the Frontier Culture Museum we’ve got more going on in ten square miles than you can imagine — with most of that actually in ten square blocks!
We also host big downtown events like our annual Sparkles & Sweets to launch the holiday season, Fourth Fridays for monthly art openings at local galleries, several music festivals and events, and our now annual Wizards and Wonders Festival (a Harry Potter themed event). There’s always a reason to come to town, whether for events like these or for great destination shopping with us!
